New Books

Great news!

Lots of new books have arrived in the library including the Total Football series by Alan Gibbons and dozens of new graded readers.  Hopefully most of these will be catalogued and ready to be borrowed at the start of next term.
Remember - if there are any books you would like to see in the library give me the details such as author, title and publisher and I'll see what I can do.

Useful Tools

Grade 10 students are busy researching authors of short stories.  Use these tools to help.

Popplet is a great easy-to-use mind-mapping tool which allows you to work independently or share with your partners. Use this to help you organise the questions you want to answer in your research.

AND don't forget to check out online library catalogue, Millennium, to see which works of short stories we have in the library.

Online Encyclopedia

This year we are fortunate to have access to the Online Britannica Encyclopedia.  You have at your fingertips a wealth of information, links to articles, websites and videos and it all comes in three levels of difficulty - Primary, Student and Britannica.  You can even set up workspaces to file articles you are interested in and no need to worry about citations - Britannica does it for you.

Please spend some time browsing - you never know what you might learn.

WELCOME BACK!

Have you been inspired by the Olympics and Paralympics to try out a new sport? Come to the library and check out some of the dozens of books on sports from athletics to Taekwondo.  Make this the year you try something new.

This is the newly painted golden postbox in my hometown.  In the UK every time someone won a gold medal at the Olympics, a postbox in the centre of their hometown was painted gold.

All change for summer

What's happening in the library?

Well, winter seems to be about over so it's time for a library make-over.  They do say that women and bairns* shouldn't see half done work but here's a wee* peek at the changes in progress.

Watch this space to see the finished new look.

CHARITY BOOK DRIVE

During our Book Week let's make this a time of giving. We are fortunate to have ready access to books, DVDs and all kinds of media. Many are not so fortunate. During Book Week boxes will be placed in every English classroom as well as the reception area in A building and the library for you to donate used textbooks, books and DVDs.
Everything collected will be donated to either TESOL Arabia who collect for schools in countries such as The Sudan and Afghanistan or to The Mission to Seafarers who offer books and DVDs to sailors who often don't step foot on dry land for many months at a time.
Books and DVDs can be in any language but please be sure that they are in good condition.

WHO DO YOU WANT TO READ TO YOU?
Teachers have been volunteering to hold reading sessions in the gardens during break times in Book Week. If there is anyone you would like to listen to, email me and we will see what we can do.
